 Kadampa Buddhist Center
I have been a member of the Kadampa Meditation Center in Glen Spey, NY since January, 2007. This beautiful temple is dedicated to the study of Kadampa Buddhism for the purpose of world peace. I highly recommend a trip to visit this exquisite site where you can tour the grounds and structures or participate in whatever way you would like. I feel so lucky to be asked to produce some images of the temple to be on display in the book store as matted prints and greeting cards for others to enjoy.

 sketch for KMC
A collection of women artists belonging to our Milford based Artist Way group met on Tuesday, October 16th at Cathy Neri's home and studio. The members who attended each brought their current project and we spent a lovely day producing work, sharing ideas, deep thoughts and laughter and enjoying a drawing session led by Mary Paterson. This is the initial pen and ink drawing of the Kadampa Meditation Center that I completed while at Cathy's home.

The foundation for house and barn are ready to be backfilled with dirt. First the inspector of backfill approval is the voice who will allow the progress to go forward. Ah....
"Night follows day, day follows dawn,
And so the time has come and gone:
And it’s weary, weary waiting, love."

 Potters throwing cylinders
David and I were invited to participate in The Empty Bowls Project in Chester, New York on Sunday, September 30th. This is an event which potter and teacher, Ray Boswell is integrally involved; it's purpose is to raise money for hunger.
About 700 handmade pottery bowls were donated by area potters and students, then displayed at the Annabaptist Community Center. For a $20 donation, each person could pick the bowl of their choice. Homemade hot vegetable soup was served in the bowls for lunch, and then the bowls were washed for traveling with you.
During the event, four potters each made a large cylinder on their potters wheels.

 The damage of hunger
Ray talked about the importance of working together, sharing and having compassion during a time of crisis and change. He than asked the audience to name some causes for hunger (war, unemployment, divorce, mental illness- to name a few), which he wrote into the wet clay, collapsing the pot.

 Compassion and Peace
Ray asked if I would draw something in the wet clay that would depict compassion, sharing and love. As I drew, many children gathered around the platter to watch. It was a fantastically inspiring event, in which we felt so honored to participate.
