 Front of house
It was exactly one year ago, June of 2007, that we broke ground to begin the building process. It is a joy to have finally completed and moved into our new home. It is indeed a dream come true and one that will continue to nourish and nurture its inhabitants and guests. We've discovered some critters with whom we share the land here: a big head tortoise who is looking for a place to hide her eggs, a deer that sauntered through one morning while we were having breakfast and who appeared very relaxed to see us watching her through the window. Who's next?

 The front porch
It's been a while since I've added house construction updates, but the weather has been a factor in slowing the building process. But that's winter weather in the Poconos. Today there were 10 inches of snow that got dumped in our region, but quite beautiful I might add.
This is a more current picture of the front porch.

 Guest room
And here's the same corner of the guest room now with dry wall. I was inspired by my friend Norma, a poet, to write poetry on the walls before they are painted. Now each room has a poem written in pencil on the wall to bless the house with special feelings and intentions.

 Protective silver lining
The cold weather and the holidays have slowed the pace of construction. Except for the basement, the house is dried in with windows and doors. The basement still needs a concrete floor to be poured through the open windows.

 Determined roofers
On a very cold day, these roofers were focused in their determination to complete the job (installing the roof tiles on the barn) in one day- they succeeded.

 The southeast view
Just a few days until Christmas, the house is closed in with windows and doors on the first and second floor. Here is the view from the southeast, and though we didn't make our intial expectations to be in, celebrating our first Christmas in our cozy cottage, we are adjusting and enjoying the progress that is being made.

These are the plastic tubes which will transport hot water for radiant heating, as seen from the underside of the 2nd floor. Later on we will attach these tubes permanently to the subfloor with intervals of metal forms and staples.

The roof tiles and skylights were added on before the last snow storm. This is the east side of the house and while we wait patiently for a warm day again to complete the job, it is fun to see it in snow.

 The front porch in December
The construction in winter months takes on new challenges. We walked around the interior of the house today where the ice cycles dripped from the ceiling and sheets of ice lay on the floor. I had the sense that I was experiencing the present unfinished house, while also viewing the very distant future, when the house will be in a state of decay and being taken over by the elements of nature, long after we and others after us have lived in it.

The barn- view of the second floor
We spent the weekend at the Washington Craft Show where David was showing his pottery. When we returned to our home in Milford we immediately wanted to view the progress of the house construction. We arrived on a snowy day to find the carpenters hard at work completing the barn roof. Here is a view of the upstairs of the barn where we'll be using this as our storage space. Unfortunately my camera battery died so I couldn't take anymore pictures that day.

House construction of the upstairs rooms
We climbed a ladder, since the stairs haven't been constructed yet, on this rainy morning to view the upstairs bedrooms. It's always fun to witness the progress from the perspective of how it looks now and what our visions are for the future completion of the project.
