 Dancing Vase
Illustration Friday topic for this week is ADAPT. The flowers in my dancing vase have adapted to the rhythm of the painting. O.K. maybe that's a stretch for this topic, but I've always been partial to this oil painting and wanted an excuse to show it.

"Happiness often sneaks in a door you didn't know you left open."
This painting is part of a journey series, about finding a home. I am submitting it to IF topic of the week, Impossibility.
This painting illustrates what may sometimes feel like an impossibility, finding happiness inside which will manifest into a garden of possibilities.

 "The shoes make the chick."
This painting was inspired by a news anchorwoman who was wearing spiked red heels. IF topic of the week is "poise" as demonstrated here by a chick in high heels.

 Jane Austen's shoes
This week the topic for Illustration Friday is INTRICATE. When I was a little girl, I was fascinated and attracted to the intricate fabrics, patterns and embellishments of clothing made in the previous centuries. This is a detail of my painting which was influenced by the writings of Jane Austen. These shoes would have been worn by Jane Austen in her day, silk with embroidered thread designs, so romantic in their imagery, she probably would wear these to a tea party.

 Hanging in the breeze
This week's topic for Illustration Friday is "breezy".
It would be great to hang the whole house on the clothesline to air it out in the breeze. Than all week long the house would have the breezy smell of fresh air.
This painting was one of a series of houses that I did when we were looking for a house to buy; at the time we were not sure where we would be located. It was a balancing act to feel comfortable in a house that didn't exist yet.

 Instinct
The topic of the week for Illustration Friday is "Instinct". Instinct is defined as "the power to discern the true nature of a person or situation." Synonyms are aptitude, aptness, knack, intuition.
It's amazing how baby possum have the aptitude to hang on to mama's back, no need to analyze how or why, it's about survival for them. And mom gets to keep an eye on them and move them along wherever she goes. I think it's a brilliant arrangement!

"Baby" - IF topic of the week
This weeks topic for Illustration Friday is "baby". Lately just for fun I have been drawing a series that I call "eraser baby" series. The way it works is I take my kneaded eraser, which is an eraser that can be manipulated by hand to change it for functioning as an eraser for different size jobs. I spontaneously "sculpt" the eraser, than draw the shape that the eraser suggests to my imagination, but the one rule that I made for myself is that I have to draw it as a baby. This drawing is #7 in the series and is done with colored pencils. Thanks to IF, I now have a venue for this "eraser baby."

Worry-3:00 a.m. do you know where your children are?
It's 3:00 a.m., do you know where your children are? This week's topic for
Illustration Friday is WORRY! As a mother of teenage boys, there were often sleepless nights of worry even when I knew where they were. But by grace or luck they survived the teenage years and so did we as parents. It's just amazing that when the topic of Worry for IF was suggested for this week, that's the first place that my mind went to, and perhaps the relief of having those years over and accomplished has made me appreciate that WORRY is really a useless emotion: "think positive and affirm the best possible outcome for all concerned" is a better alternative, not to mention prayer!

 Pear Geisha
This week's topic for IF is "wide". Now you may have seen a trend lately in my images of pear geishas and I will explain my inspiration for these lovely ladies. But first it must be noted that traditionally a geisha would be quite svelte, however my geishas are more rounded or "wide" - hence my IF contribution for this week.
My inspiration for pear geishas came from an experience in which I set up a pear in my studio on a table where I left it unmoved for 6 weeks. Everyday I would devote 15 minutes to drawing the pear. Not only did this drawing exercise help to improve skills in observation, but it also inspired the pear image to be portrayed in the theme of geishas that I was working on at the time.
This was so much fun, and I loved the consistency of drawing the same pear image everyday, it was a dedication and a practice to improve drawing skills that I highly recommend. It is something that I'm stating the intention now to practice more regularly when we move into our new home and studios....soon.

 Pear Geisha
This quick sketch was a "seed" thought for a painting called Pear Geisha. In capturing the swift sketch, it allows for the impression or seed thought to manifest which will later develop into full bloom.

 "Wrinkles"
This week's topic for IF is "wrinkles". When I was at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center about a month ago, I had my sketchbook and did some quick sketches of people in the lobby. This man was leaning into the bar, sipping his soft drink, and the back of his suit demonstrates a wave of wrinkles.

IF topic of the week- Gardens
"We learn from our gardens to deal with the most urgent question of time: How much is enough?"
A quote by Wendell Berry was my choice for a title for this painting, and it serves as a reminder that when enough is enough, it really is enough!

 "Hardshell Finish"
multiples the topic for Illustration Friday
When I painted this, I was working on a geisha series, and the turtle race was symbolic of the projected finish dates for our house and studio construction.

 "Choose"
I've found a website called Illustration Friday which offers a topic of the week. Than artists send in their interpretation of the topic and it is linked to their blog or website.
It seems like a fun way to have a fresh project each week.
This is my first entry and I'm just going to dive in because how else will I get my feet wet?
The topic: CHOOSE
Well I'm a mom, and moms sometimes have to divide their attention for each of their kids, but ultimately get around to each one, just choosing how and when.
